FRENCH AND BRITISH DREADNOUGHTS, 1912 (MP155)![]() A B Cull (1880-1931). Watercolour signed and dated (LL) ’12.We appear to be looking at a combined fleet gathering: ships are dressed overall and the French national flag flying from the British dreadnought’s fore suggests we are in French waters. In the foreground is a dreadnought of the Corbet Class - almost certainly FNS JEAN BART as she alone of the class (CORBET, PARIS and FRANCE were the other three) carried goose neck cranes in lieu of the more standard derricks; and anchored out on her starboard bow is a British dreadnought of the Orion Class (CONQUEROR, MONARCH, THUNDERER or ORION herself). The two classes were contemporaries and were broadly similar in size and armament (the French mounting 16 x 12 inch guns, the British 10 x 13.5 inch guns). Whilst the French practise was still to mount some off-centreline turrets (two in this class) the Orions had moved to all centreline mountings. Limited edition worldwide: 12 copiesStandard size: 7 x 4.3 ins (17.6 x 11 cms) approx. Price band (mounted/matted): £85-£105
